President’s News

I would like to welcome some new Board Members to the BCSDA.  We have some very good members joining us for the 2022-2023 season, and some very dedicated souls staying on, providing the history and knowledge every club relies upon.  Thank you Rose Mcleod and Daphne Tomblin.

For years Rose has headed up our fundraising efforts and has always come up with unique and fun ideas to raise funds for the sport we love.  Daphne Tomblin, representing Vancouver Island is staying the course.

Daphne provides the Board her very critical eye, straightforward approach to problem solving and strong common sense voice.  Thanks Daphne for stepping up.  Sandra Hurst, long time member from the Okanagan Region, has taken the VP reins from Gord Lazzarrotto.  Sandra brings the BCSDA her many years of experience as committee and board member from a variety of associations as well as her positive can do attitude of what is possible.

Long standing member and contributor Holly Brunner has stepped up as Director at Large#2, taking over from Linda Larson.  Holly provides the club with a long history of hosting events, an excellent knowledge of sheep husbandry and a solid knowledge of the membership.  We have an open Board position for the Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley eagerly awaiting a keen contributor!

I would also like to thank Gord, (Vice President) Linda (Director at Large #2) and Brian Nelson (Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley) for their dedication and hard work over the past two years.  I am sure we will see them both on the trial fields over the 2022-2023 trial season.

Though  not a Board Member, I would be remiss in not thanking Jennifer L’arrivee.  Jen is really our biggest contributor in several ways.  In addition to managing this webpage, which she took over the after Kristi died, no she also started up the Facebook page.  For several years Jennifer has also looked after the BCSDA interests at the Western Canadians.  She is a wealth of knowledge on the club and  it’s history. Thank you Jennifer for all your contributions!

The 2021 AGM was well attended via zoom.  We had 18 members join in, either by video or telephone.  We all seem to be getting quite adapt at zoom, and I find it gives all members equal opportunity to join the AGM with out having to travel.  The meeting was efficient and dealt with the outstanding issues and a few new ones.  Sandra Hurst kindly took the minutes and they will be posted to the website soon.  But most importantly our successes of the year were acknowledged and celebrated.  Lee Lumb and Wonder Dog Gus cleaned up in Open Field, and Jen L’arrivee and up and coming Wonder Dog Roz, won in Pro Nov Field ! Congratulations to both.  Lee and Gus were also awarded Top Dog at the Western Canadians and of course Top Dog at the Canadian Champions!

The Board of Directors plan to meet via Zoom to review the COVID 19 protocols put n place this fall, to ensure we are in keeping with the provincial Health Authority guid lines, and to well look at perhaps shortening the length of time it takes to sanction a trial.

We have a couple BCSDA sanctioned arena trials coming up, one this Saturday at Stirling Acres and one on November 20th at BS Farm.  Both entries are listed on the web page.  Scores for trials will no longer be listed on this website, however they are posted on the BCSDA fb page. What we are finding, if you are looking for scores, usually someone at the trial is texting them too you in real time.  Adding them to the website becomes a redundant exercise and recognizing we are all pretty busy, we have chosen not to post them here.

That’s about it! Wishing you all a very cozy fall with happy and healthy dogs!
